A Basement Remodel with A Pop Of Individuality
There’s no doubt that this project was defined by personal touches. And frankly, the homeowner made the whole design process very easy – they knew what they liked. Everything from their personal collection of beer bottle caps to their home brewery and mounted bull skull gave this Minnesota basement remodel a completely unique vibe that we absolutely love.

Bar & Brewery
An eclectic mix of materials defined this space, and we wanted it to serve as the perfect spot for the owner to both entertain and pursue a home brewing hobby. The brewery itself had been created by the homeowner and was already finished, so we had a solid base to work from to finalize the overall look.
To start, we opted for a neutral color scheme with hints of deep blue and occasional pops of color throughout. The cabinets were enameled in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore to achieve a sleek and stylish grey-charcoal hue, and we used reclaimed wood throughout – including on the ceiling beams, wood bar wrap, barn doors, and custom wine racks – to add a rustic quality to the space. The balance created instant class and kept the space feeling both modern and timeless.
Finally, the upper bar backsplash was topped off by incorporating the owner’s beer bottle cap collection. Each cap was hand placed and sealed in with an epoxy, giving the room a slice of color and creating a completely individual piece of art.

Lounge Area
To feel cohesive with the bar area’s rustic chic vibe, we wanted to incorporate a fireplace feature wall with similar features. So, we installed a stone fireplace for texture, added surrounding custom shelving in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, and our clients topped it all off with the owner’s bull skull from a family farm. With beautiful large windows overlooking the outdoors and four comfortable armchairs arranged perfectly for conversation with guests, this lounge area was the perfect space to relax at the end of a long day (especially with a pint of brew in hand!).

Theater Seating
Opposite from the lounge area, we made sure to incorporate a home theater – complete with ultra-comfortable reclining theater seats. Ideal for the big game or gathering to watch a movie, this Modern Industrial space played on the same neutrals and reclaimed wood themes present throughout the rest of the basement while still managing to stand out with its own style. Cowhide bar stools provided extra seating against an added drink ledge, and metallic sculptural wall artwork gave the space movement and dimension. The end result? Pure entertainment zone magic.

Bathroom
Finally, like the rest of the remodel, this basement’s bathroom needed to feel contemporary, but with a twist. So, we started with fresh white tile to create a simple and sophisticated base – subway tile for the shower walls, penny tile for the shower floor, and hex tile for the rest of the bathroom floor. We then added custom shelving (again in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore), and brought out the rustic features inherent to the basement’s design with a rustic white oak wood vanity and a bathroom mirror made from antiqued mirror subway tile. The combination managed to keep things refined while still feeling completely unique.

This Minnesota basement remodel was one of a kind, and the perfect example of how great design should always reflect the personality of the homeowners. By blending rustic and modern elements together seamlessly, we were able to incorporate our client’s love for home brewing and entertainment in a way that felt timeless and fresh. And in our opinion, that’s the best kind of combination there is.
