Creating the Ultimate Basement Entertainment Zone

We just wrapped up our new basement finish project at Wilds Overlook, and it is hands down one of our favorites. The goal was to make the space feel like an entertainment zone that the whole family could enjoy. So, the focus was on fun, function, and a splash of quirky character thrown in.
Let’s take a look at some of our favorite elements:

Bar/Lounge Area
This area was made for entertaining. Want to watch the latest NFL game? Check. Hosting a birthday party? Check. Throwing an Oscar-themed get together? Check. This room is open and ready for memories to be made and fun to be had. It doesn’t get better than the comfy lounge seating around the fireplace/TV feature wall, the shuffleboard table, and fully stocked bar. In fact, it’s perfect for just about any party or gathering. Exposed brick keeps it feeling eclectic (like your favorite sports bar’s atmosphere). And to top it off, soft textiles give the room a homey and welcoming vibe. It’s the perfect blend, if we do say so ourselves.

Hidden Bookcase Door
How incredible is this bookcase? Not only is it great for displaying books and tchotchkes, but it also swings open on its hinges to reveal a secret room inside. Kids absolutely love hidden gems like these. And when they get the chance to have a playroom all to themselves, it’s a total hit. New basement finish spaces are usually always filled with a few nooks and crannies that are unused. So, we opted to transform that empty space into something imaginative instead. And frankly, it makes us want to be a kid all over again!

A Friendly Face in the New Basement Finish
To add a little character to the basement, a bull was mounted to the exposed brick wall in the hallway area. Because who doesn’t love a friendly face like this one? It gives the otherwise simple and unnoticed hallway a chance to shine with visual contrast and interest. It’s something every space needs!

Bathroom
Keeping to a blend of neutral colors, this bathroom takes the cake with its layered textures and patterns. We love everything from the exposed brick wall to the graphic floor tiles and pebble shower tile feature. Overall, this basement bathroom is a visual stunner. (P.S. Don’t miss the photobombing Mr. Bull in the corner of the mirror reflection!)

And that’s a wrap on our Wilds Overlook new basement finish! It was a blast, and it really gave us a chance to explore the fun and playful side of design. And that’s something we could all use a bit more of in our daily lives. Cheers!

Megan,
This basement is fabulous! Well done! Where did you get the bar stool chairs? Love those. Also was the exposed brick already slightly white washed or did you add any of those details yourselves? I love that slightly whitewashed appearance.
Where did you purchase the bathroom vanity? It’s perfect! Your half bath is the inspiration for our bathroom remodels!

I love your brick! Do you have any insight on diying this? I would love to do an exposed brick like this in my half bath. Did you do this yourself? How did you get the brick to be this color? It’s absolutely stunning!
Hi Sara, Thank you for your kind words! This work was done by a mason, so we’re not able to explain the process. Good luck with you project!
